Sedia della Radice

The Root Chair- designed by The Last Fellow - is a radical design object born from the forest — minimalist, sustainable, and technically visionary. Composed of just three precisely engineered parts, it is crafted entirely from a single piece of ultra-high-strength mirrored metal. This aerospace-grade material allows for extreme stability while using a minimum of material, making the Root Chair arguably the thinnest chair in the world.
The process begins with the careful removal of a tree trunk from the forest. However, the trunk itself is not used. Instead, the void it leaves behind — the absence, the negative space, the root bed — becomes the conceptual and formal origin of the chair. In this way, the Root Chair is a sculptural inversion of nature: a reflection of a tree, abstracted into a sleek, metallic silhouette.
Its mirror-like surface reflects its surroundings, allowing the chair to visually dissolve into the forest or room, while simultaneously asserting its artificial, high-tech presence. It exists in the tension between nature and technology, tradition and innovation — a sustainable object that feels almost immaterial yet remains fully functional.
