ARCHITECTURAL PERFORMANCE

Project: Exhibition at Villa Massimo Year: 2025 Architecture: The Last Fellow himself, Benedikt Hartl Performance: Maria Luisa Usai, Pierpaolo Fabrizio, Benedikt Hartl Cooperation Partner: Museo diffuse degli Alberi Photography: Alberto Novelli & Alessio Panunzi Location: Villa Massimo, Rome

The performance begins with a crowd gathering for an announcement: Villa Massimo is declared officially over.

An artist and Benedikt Hartl, the “last fellow,” appear in silver suits carrying a suitcase. Inside is the infrastructure for a new institution: a Tree Museum. The suitcase is opened, tools and seeds are unpacked, and the site is surveyed through binoculars.

Then comes the institutional handover. Director Julia Draganovic receives her dismissal. Curator Pierpaolo Fabrizio symbolically takes over the Villa and, with it, the future Tree Museum.

In front of the studio, the audience plants seeds. The dissolution of the institution becomes a spatial ritual.

Inside, the former studio has already transformed. The last fellow wanders through a post-apocalyptic forest of earth, mist, plants, and architectural fragments.

At the end, the artist and the last fellow stand together in this new space.

The Villa has disappeared. The Tree Museum has begun.
