The smallest museum in Lower Austria wants to appear larger than it actually is. An oversized roof becomes façade, sign, and billboard – very much in the spirit of Robert Venturi. Behind it lies a tiny exhibition space, discovered through small peepholes like a kaleidoscope. The site itself is an eccentric conglomerate of weathered façades, crooked dormers, raw brickwork, gnarled trees, and a half-buried wine cellar – somewhere between lost space, subculture, and counterculture. The new building does not try to calm this strangeness, but adds another layer to it. Blue walls and a neon-yellow structure make the museum highly visible from the road, while white interior surfaces provide a neutral backdrop for the art. Skylight and peepholes frame the works from changing perspectives; at night, motion-activated lights illuminate them. For openings and events, large triangular doors can be folded out, transforming the tiny gallery into an open stage. A very small museum with a very big gesture.
