CITY COUNTRY RIVER

At the Rathausgalerie, the exhibition “City, Country, River – What Is Nature Worth to Me?” shows how urban spaces can be designed to meet the challenges of climate change. Visitors can build, experiment, and develop their own ideas for a greener Munich.

However, the exhibition is not only about bringing more nature into the city, but also about integrating urbanity into nature. How can we build in sensitive ecosystems without destroying them? And how can we build without displacing native wildlife? Munich-based architect Benedikt Hartl, internationally renowned and award-winning, provides an answer. His competition model presents a stilted structure accessible only by ladder—conceived as part of a building program intended to sustainably develop some of the islands around Helsinki.

The exhibition City, Country, River attracted over 10,000 visitors.
